Audible Membership Plans & Prices Explained
Audible offers a few different membership options, and each one is built for a slightly different kind of listener.
Some plans are more about affordable access, while others are better if you want credits and permanent ownership of audiobooks. Once you understand that difference, the pricing becomes much easier to compare.
Audible Standard
Price: $8.99/month
Audible Standard is currently the lowest-priced Audible membership.
Key features:
- Select 1 audiobook every month from Audible’s collection of over 1 million titles
- Listen to your selected audiobooks while your membership remains active
- Unlimited access to eligible podcasts
- No audiobook credits included
- Unused audiobook selections do not roll over. If you do not choose a book in a given month, that month’s selection is lost and cannot be used later.
The main thing to know about Audible Standard is that you do not permanently own the audiobook you select.
You can access your selected audiobooks only as long as you remain a member.
For people who usually listen to one audiobook a month and want the most affordable way to stay with Audible, Standard can be a practical choice.
Audible Premium Plus (Monthly)
Audible Premium Plus is available in two monthly plans:
| Plan | Price | Credits |
|---|---|---|
| Premium Plus | $14.95/month | 1 credit per month |
| Premium Plus 2 Credits | $22.95/month | 2 credits per month |
Key features:
- Monthly audiobook credits
- Access to the Audible Plus Catalog, including thousands of Audible Originals, audiobooks, podcasts, and exclusive series
- Exclusive member sales and discounts
- Ability to purchase additional credits when eligible
- Unused credits roll over and can be used in future months. (Learn more in our guide on how Audible credits work.)
Audiobooks purchased with credits remain in your library even if you cancel your Audible membership later.
This plan is a better fit for regular listeners who want to build a permanent audiobook collection over time.
Audible Premium Plus (Annual)
Audible also offers annual memberships for frequent listeners.
| Plan | Price | Credits |
|---|---|---|
| Premium Plus Annual | $149.50/year | 12 credits |
| Premium Plus Annual (24 Credits) | $229.50/year | 24 credits |
Key features:
- Credits are provided upfront for the year
- Full access to the Audible Plus Catalog
- Exclusive member discounts and sales
- Permanent ownership of audiobooks purchased with credits
Annual plans are basically a lower-cost way to get Premium Plus benefits.
They usually make the most sense if you already know you will keep listening throughout the year.
For frequent listeners, annual plans often deliver the strongest value because they lower the cost per audiobook.
Which Audible Plan Offers the Best Value?
The best value depends on how you listen.
If you only listen occasionally and want the lowest entry price, Audible Standard can be enough. It works well if you usually finish about one audiobook a month and do not care about owning every title permanently.
Premium Plus costs more, but it gives you something Standard does not: ownership. The credits let you keep audiobooks in your library, which matters a lot if you like buying specific titles or listening to premium releases.
The real difference is not just monthly price.
It is whether you want temporary access or permanent ownership.
Cost Per Audiobook:
| Plan | Approximate Cost Per Audiobook |
|---|---|
| Audible Standard | $8.99 |
| Premium Plus (1 Credit) | $14.95 |
| Premium Plus (2 Credits) | $11.48 |
| Premium Plus Annual (12 Credits) | $12.46 |
| Premium Plus Annual (24 Credits) | $9.56 |
At first glance, Standard looks like the cheapest option. But if you listen regularly, Premium Plus often gives better long-term value, especially when you use credits on more expensive audiobooks.
If you are new to Audible, starting with a monthly plan usually makes sense.
If you already listen often, an annual plan may give you the best value overall.
Which Audible Plan Should You Choose?
If you are not sure which plan to go for, this simple guide can help:
| If you… | Recommended Plan |
|---|---|
| Want the cheapest Audible membership | Audible Standard |
| Usually listen to one audiobook per month | Audible Standard |
| Want to keep audiobooks permanently | Premium Plus |
| Listen regularly throughout the year | Premium Plus |
| Want the best value per audiobook | Premium Plus Annual |
For many new users, Audible Standard is the easiest place to start.
For regular listeners, Premium Plus usually makes more sense because the audiobooks you get with credits stay in your library permanently.
In the end, the best plan is not always the cheapest one. It is the one that matches the way you actually listen.

Where is the audible account charged?
I’m not seeing it on my credit card. Does it show up as an Amazon charge.
I thought I was to get one free book along with my prime membership.
You can get an intro deal with your Kindle at $30 for 6 months unlimited reading and listening on any device, if you have a Kindle.
I like listening to Audible I just don’t get a lot of time to do this. I currently have 8 unused credits in my account and am considering cancelling but don’t want to lose my credits. What is a better way to enjoy Audible for me? I don’t understand what the $7.95/month for the Plus plan get’s you?
Also, I’m considering getting this for my mom. Is there some kind of play where I can share credits with her?
I meant to type “plan” instead of “play” in my comment above about sharing credits with my mom.

I pay $16.95 a month for my membership so I’m being overcharged. How can I get the cheaper version of Audible?
Hello Elinor! Audible costs $14.95/month excluding tax. You will be taxed according to your state taxes. Here’s the list of states where taxes may be charged (It is for Amazon Prime membership, but it will most probably be the same for Audible as well) :

I want to know which plan I have. I love using Audible.com.
