Is HBO Max Free With Amazon Prime? HBO Max Free Trial 2023
HBO has been the heart of online streaming networks for years now. And with its recent decision to release many of Time Warner’s key theatrical releases to HBO Max on the same day as they hit theaters, HBO is taking the content streaming experience to a whole new level.
To make the experience even more seamless and convenient, HBO Max has also been made available on popular Amazon devices, including Amazon Fire TV and Fire Tablets.
After more than a year since HBO Max was removed from Amazon Prime Channels, it made a comeback to the platform in early December 2022.
However, there seems to be a lot of confusion among Amazon Prime users regarding how HBO subscription works with Amazon Prime. Some users think that HBO Max is free for Prime members. But is that really true?

Is HBO Max Free With Amazon Prime?
Currently, HBO Max is not free with Amazon Prime. There is, however, a 7-day free trial for all eligible members who have not taken the Amazon HBO free trial before. After the free trial is over, members are charged $15.99 per month for the HBO Max channel subscription.
You can cancel anytime and you will not be charged at all if you cancel before your free trial ends.
Although HBO max is not included with Amazon Prime for free, the 7-day free trial is definitely a good way to start the subscription.
Once you start your Amazon Prime HBO Max free trial, you get unlimited access to your favorite HBO contents (the same great contents that were earlier available through HBO NOW and HBO GO). You can watch them on all your Prime Video compatible devices. Just open Prime Video, and look for HBO contents on your subscriptions.
However, to start the Amazon HBO free trial or the paid subscription through Amazon Prime, you must already have an eligible Prime membership. You are eligible if you have any one of the following membership types:
- Amazon Prime membership
- 30-day Amazon Prime free trial
- Annual Prime Student membership
- Prime Student free trial
- Amazon Prime Fresh
- 30-day Amazon Prime Fresh free trial
How to Cancel Amazon HBO Free Trial?
After your free trial is over, Amazon will start charging you automatically each month.
However, if you do not wish to continue with the service, you can cancel anytime. You won’t be required to keep the subscription for a certain period of time.
To cancel your Amazon HBO free trial, simply log into your Prime Video account and go to Manage Your Prime Video Channels. You’ll see all your active channel subscriptions, as well as subscription price and renewal date in this page.
You can then proceed to cancel it at any time, right from there. Just look under ‘Actions’ and click on ‘Cancel Channel’ corresponding to ‘HBO’ and then confirm it.
Once you cancel, the renewal date of your HBO Max subscription becomes the end date, and you’ll no longer be charged each month. However, you can continue to access the Channel through Prime Video up until the end date even after you cancel the free trial or paid membership.
Other Channels Available on Amazon Prime
Just like HBO Max, there are many other popular channels like STARZ, Cinemax, Showtime, etc. that are available with Prime Video as a third-party paid subscriptions. The monthly price of each channel might vary. Most of these channels come with a free trial as well.
Here’s a list of some of the other popular channels that are available on Prime Video.

Interesting post! I’m currently an Amazon Prime member, but I’m not sure if HBO Max is included in my subscription. Will definitely be trying out the free trial to see if I can get access to more HBO content without paying extra. Thanks for the info!
Do I get charged after 7 days or after 30 days? After 7 days, do I lose access to HBO but not Amazon Prime?
Hello Julia,
HBO Max and Amazon prime are two different memberships. However, in order to get your 7-day HBO Max free trial, you must be a Prime member at the time of taking the trial (even free trial Prime membership will do). After 7 days, you will be charged $14.99 for the next month for HBO membership.
Every search I made looking for the TV series The West Wing said that the entire series was available on HBO Max. This is the only reason that I decided to sign up for HBO Max through my Amazon Prime subscription. Unfortunately, now that I have signed up through Amazon Prime, it seems as though The West Wing is only available to buy, and does not come with HBO Max as my internet searches had revealed. Is there different content on HBO Max if you sign up through Amazon Prime?
Hello Cabin,
I am sorry to know that. Unfortunately, I am not aware of how HBO hosts and charges content on HBO Max through Amazon Prime.
However, that won’t matter now since HBO and Amazon have parted ways. Sadly, HBO Max will no longer be available through Amazon Prime video.
My question is it 15 additional dollars on top of what you already pay monthly for amazon prime?
Yes Kristian. It is 15 additional dollars!
I tried to do a free trial but it wanted my amazon pin
Where can you find your pin? This is not amazon password
Hi Mindy!
I’m not really sure about the pin but it might be asking the OTP if you have opted for Amazon’s two-step verification process during login. The OTP is sent to your registered mobile number.
If that doesn’t help then please contact Amazon’s customer care service. They will help you out.
Great instructions! I almost kept my HBO subscription on accident since my PRIME membership is the main thing that popped up saying i have another month free. My wallet and I appreciate you.
You are welcome, Destiny!
But if you order a free trial and cancel within the 7 days, you still will be charged for one month, is that what you have said? If so, that is false advertising because the trial is not free. Please explain. Thanks
No, Lou! You won’t be charged if you cancel within 7 days.
