Much to the delight of audiobooks lovers in India, Amazon finally launched Audible India service in November 2018. It is now available on Android, iOS, and Desktop with a selection of over 200,000 audiobooks across genres and languages.
Audible India price starts at just ₹199 per month and Amazon is offering a 30-day free trial option to all new members, and a 90-day free trial to Amazon Prime members!
Besides, even during the free trial you can exchange your audiobooks for free if you did not like it. (Yes, even if you have listened to the entire book already!).

How does Audible work in India?
In India, Audible works either as a recurring monthly subscription or as a prepaid subscription, depending upon the type of plan you choose.
In recurring plan, your credit card or debit card will be charged automatically every month and your membership will continue until you cancel it. While in one-time prepaid subscription plan, you will be charged only once and your membership will end automatically after the plan period is over.
There are only limited payment options for the recurring plan (All credit cards and selected debit cards only), while for the prepaid plan, most of the payment options are available like all Visa/MasterCard/RuPay credit and debit cards as well as Net Banking!
You can check it yourself here. Go to the Audible India offer page, then click on ‘Start your free trial now’ and then on ‘Show all plans’. Now you can explore different plans to check eligibility of your payment methods. In the example below, one of the prepaid plans is selected.
You get Audible credits as per your Audible India Membership plan. For example, with the recurring monthly plan, you get 1 credit each month and that 1 credit is worth any audiobook in the Audible library. That means you can buy any Audiobook of your choice with that credit irrespective of the price.

Audible India Free Trial
An Audible India free trial is given to every member who signs up with Audible for the first time. An existing Prime member gets a 90-day free trial while a non-Prime member gets a 30-day free trial.
However, you will get to start with a free trial only if you opt for the recurring plan. That means you must have a credit card if you want the free trial. Debit cardholders of some specific banks like ICICI, Citibank, Kotak are also eligible for a free trial.
To start your Audible India free trial, Go to the Free Trial offer page. And click on Start your free trial now. You will land on the Audible India plans page with the recurring free trial plan automatically selected.
Now continue to choose your payment method (Credit card or selected debit cards as mentioned above) and then place the order to start your plan. A small amount (Usually ₹2 will be deducted from your account just to test that your card is working. It will be refunded within 48 hours)
Your Audible India free trial membership will then get started!
Is Audible Free With Amazon Prime India?
As of now, Audible is not free with Amazon Prime India! Even for Prime members, the Audible subscription price in India is the same as that of a non-Prime member.
However, Amazon Prime members do get a 90-day free trial of Audible membership instead of the 30-day free trial that a non-prime member gets.
Besides, Prime members may also get some discounted Audible offers during Amazon Prime Day!
Audible India Plans & Pricing
Currently, Audible India provides 4 plans. There’s one recurring plan starting with a free trial. There is no annual recurring plan as of now. All Audible charges in India are explained in this section.
There are other three plans which are prepaid which can be seen on clicking the ‘Show all plans’ in the plans page:
- 1 Month at ₹299: You get 1 Audible credit.
- 6 Months at ₹1345: You get 1 credit per month for 6 months.
- 12 Months: at ₹2332: You get 1 credit per month for 12 months. This Audible yearly membership plan is the only annual plan in India.
Please note: Any unused credits remaining on your account at the time of cancellation of Audible India Membership, or when your prepaid membership period ends, will be lost. So you should use them first, as any audiobooks you purchase are yours to keep forever.

Audible India Review
Coming to Audible India Review, currently, there’s not much to explore actually! As stated earlier, the number and variety of audiobooks are really limited. Though the price is relatively low, Audible India has a long way to go in making a wider selection of titles available to its users.
The Audible App is really good though. It’s really easy to use and understand.

Is Audible Worth it in India?
Yes, Audible is probably worth it more in India than any other country!
The first reason is the Price itself. Though ₹199 a month is not a small sum of money for an audiobook, it is still significantly lower while comparing with the Audible pricing in any other country.
Before Audible India was launched, most of the Indian audiobook lovers were a member of Audible USA, where the basic monthly Gold plan costs $14.95 (About ₹1050). So you can estimate the difference.
But again, the worth cannot always be measured in price. You will have to consider other aspects as well. For instance, Audible India is still growing and currently has a limited library of books. You will rarely find the latest audiobooks from reputed foreign authors. But that may not be an issue if you are new to listening audiobooks.
So, if you are okay with this. Audible India at ₹199 a month is definitely worth a try!
Audible India vs Audible USA
While comparing Audible India vs Audible USA, here are some of the notable differences:
- Price: Audible India membership costs ₹199 per month while the cost of basic Audible USA Gold monthly plan is $14.95 (About ₹1050)
- Audible Originals: Audible USA offers two Audible Originals audiobooks to their members every month at no extra cost. Audible Originals are basically audiobooks produced by Audible and are exclusively available on Audible. Audible originals are currently not available on Audible India.
- Wide Range of Titles: Audible India currently has a very limited number of titles. Latest audiobooks from famous authors are usually not available. On the other hand, Audible USA has a much wider range of titles to choose from, including the latest ones.
